ARAEX was founded in 1993 by Javier Galarreta in his home town of Vitoria-Gasteiz, to offer exclusive Export services to 5 outstanding quality producers from the Rioja Alavesa, who were at the same time founding shareholders in the company. Each house maintained its own identity and culture, but through working together they were able to build commercial and brand awareness synergies centered on the concept of “Excellence Made in Spain”. From the very first moment this innovative business model received warm support from many Export markets, in particular the UK and the business went from strength to strength winning numerous International awards and recognition.

In 2001, as the world-wide popularity of Spanish wines grew, along with his business prospects outside Rioja Alavesa, Javier created Spanish Fine Wines, a second company that grouped winegrowers from other respected Spanish regions, including Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Navarra, Rias Baixas, Cava and La Mancha, for Export sales and marketing. Now operating under the brand name ARAEX Grands Spanish Fine Wines Javier continues to create new wine ventures characterized by quality, global presence, sustainability, organic farming, and respect toward the regional identity and communities of its Spanish vineyards, as well as new collaborations.

From the crafting of prestigious wines to the organization of tasting panels, ARAEX Grands Spanish Fine Wines' activities stand out for their excellence and vision. Among the latest initiatives, the cooperation with the world renowned winemaker Michel Rolland is especially notable and the brand R&G (Rolland & Galarreta) now makes limited production and prestigious wines in Rioja Alavesa, Txacoli, Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Priorat, Single Estate Syrah and Manzanilla/Sherry.
