Securitas, the first global security company to join the SBTi initiative for emissions reduction

  • Through this alliance, the process of developing and validating objectives to further reduce the Group's climate impact will begin.

The Securitas Group, a world leader in security solutions for companies and institutions, has signed the commitment letter of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), becoming the first security company to join this project.

SBTi is a collaboration between the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the United Nations Global Compact. Science-based targets offer companies a clearly defined pathway to reduce emissions, building on the goals of the Paris Agreement—that is, directing their efforts toward limiting warming to 1,5°C above pre-industrial levels.

"As a leading company in the sector, our commitment to the SBTi initiative was the next logical step for Securitas", Said Magnus Ahlqvist, Chairman and CEO of Securitas. "By reporting emissions to the CDP for over 10 years and being a signatory to the UN Global Compact since 2015, we have already demonstrated that we take climate change very seriously. As part of our purpose to help make this world a safer place, with this commitment to the SBTi we will continue to demonstrate our leadership in the sector.".

Securitas' environmental impact is relatively small, as demonstrated by its Net impact rating AAA – the highest possible rating – placing it among the top 3% of companies. To further reduce its impact, the company is developing more sustainable security solutions through extensive modernization and digitalization of its business. Furthermore, Securitas collaborates with many of the world's leading companies and looks forward to continuing to work with its customers and suppliers to reduce emissions and climate impact.

"Doing the right thing is nothing new to us. Being a responsible company has been our priority since 1934.", Explain Cecilia Alenius, Head of Sustainability at the Securitas Group. "For us, it's clear that safety and sustainability must go hand in hand. That's why, while we're proud to have achieved a low environmental impact, we will continue to look for ways to reduce it even further. Only in this way can we lead the sector in the right direction and achieve a different world."".
