OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS launches new exam to certify B2 and C1 levels of English

The Oxford Test of English Advanced will be available worldwide from May.

Since its launch in 2017, the Oxford Test of English has established a network of examination centres in 50 countries and is recognized by universities, educational institutions and organizations in more than 80, for all kinds of academic and professional purposes.

Oxford University Press (OUP)Oxford University Press, the publishing arm of the prestigious University of Oxford, has chosen Spain to launch its new English proficiency exam worldwide: the Oxford Test of English Advanced. This test will certify B2 and C1 levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR).

Spain was also chosen for the international launch of the Oxford Test of English in 2017, thus confirming its importance as a leading country in the field of examinations. This new test accurately measures skills related to the university environment and the current professional context, such as mediation, debate, and presentations. It also includes the assessment of more traditional and academic skills such as essay writing, reading comprehension, and text analysis.

It is a 100% exam on-line, which reliably and securely certifies students' language proficiency. It has been developed and validated by a team of independent experts and can only be taken at authorized examination centers (Approved Test CentreAt any time of year, without any specific preparation, you can be certified at levels A2, B1, B2, and C1 according to the CEFR. Each level consists of four modules (speaking, reading, listening, and writing) that are completed in a maximum of two hours and in no predetermined order. Throughout the test, you can see your progress in each section, as well as the time remaining and time used. It is an adaptive exam, meaning that the content of the reading and listening sections will vary depending on your answers, making this exam a unique experience. The overall score is given once all four sections have been completed, and the results are available in just 5 days. Furthermore, you can repeat the modules individually up to four times in the same year, with the best results always appearing on your certificate.

The presentation took place at an event where Colin Finnerty, Head of Evaluation Research at OOP has explained the details of this new exam. Following this, Cristina Pérez-Guillot, professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and president of ACLES between 2003 and 2021; Xavier Gisbert, president of CIEB (Association for Bilingual Education); and Nathaniel Owen, senior manager of Research and Assessment Analysis at [company name missing], spoke.
