On August 26, Nepal suffered a massive flash flood that has left hundreds of people dead and created a critical humanitarian situation in the affected areas.
The disaster has also severely impacted educational infrastructure: 18 schools have been completely destroyed and another 20 have been damaged, directly affecting more than 17.000 students and depriving children of safe spaces to learn, play and recover.
The human impact continues to mount: thousands of families face the loss of their homes, schools, and livelihoods. At least 10.000 children have suddenly been left without school, in the middle of the Nepalese academic year.
In the coming months, helping them safely return to education will be one of the top priorities of our response.
Meanwhile, the situation remains unstable and the danger has not passed. Further flooding and forecasted rains could further hamper rescue efforts, while affected communities continue to live in uncertainty.
