Introduction
The British Embassy in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Project Manager B3 (EE), based in Madrid.
With a customer base of over 300,000 British residents and over 15 million British tourists each year, Spain is the FCO’s busiest and highest profile consular operations.
The successful candidate will play an important role in oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of several specific short-term projects for the Spain Consular Network.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
- Draft and coordinate the delivery of one pan-Spain Influencing Plan which includes a range of specific sub-projects aimed at improving tourism safety and greater integration and autonomy of the British expat community in Spain;
- Engagement with key internal and external stakeholders and partners in order to ensure delivery of the Plan. Design and apply impact evaluation tools;
- Anticipate, articulate and evaluate the impact of UK, EU and Spanish policies on the Spanish Consular operation with particular focus on justice, social, economic and home affairs and property issues;
- Provide briefing notes for senior stakeholders, making representations and lobbying host authorities where required;
- Provide a sound and comprehensive insight into the number, profile and trends of British nationals living in or visiting Spain. Interpreting the raw data, and analysing the impact of this customer base on the British consular operation in Spain. Sharing the results with other sections in the Embassy and the wider Foreign and Commonwealth Office;
- Introduce economies of scale and recommend efficiency savings across the Spain consular network;
- Identify and eliminate duplication through the coordination of Spain-wide crisis contacts, minimum standards trackers and quality control tools currently being used.
Required Experience & Skills
- Project Management experience;
- Sound knowledge of both the UK and Spain;
- Communicate effectively – speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate effective communication tools and techniques;
- Creativity and innovation – experience in developing new and unique ways to improve operations;
- Foster Teamwork – work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve a problem and make decisions that enhance the operations effectiveness;
- Highly organised – self starter, able to set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals and evaluate impact;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Fluency in English and Good level of Spanish.

Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time temporary contract of 12 months. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week.
The monthly salary for this position is 31,933.00 € gross per year, at a locally engaged B3 (EE) level.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance with a probation period of 3 month.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy/Consulate based on gross annual salary.
Regarding taxation, the Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate.
