Healthcare Assistant A1, Madrid (ESP 763)

Introduction
The British Embassy in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Healthcare Assistant A1, based in Madrid.
The Department of Health (DH) works in close partnership with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to deliver a high standard information service on healthcare entitlements to UK-insured customers in Spain. This is achieved by delivering relevant key messages through diverse communications channels and maintaining excellent working relationships between UK and Spanish government departments. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping the team to meet these objectives.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
- Handling healthcare enquiries from the general public, liaising with key Spanish authorities where necessary;
- Assist in the delivery of the team´s communications plan, aiming to prevent fraud and generate case referrals;
- Maintaining the local customer records, collecting data and producing statistics and management information;
- Assist in the recording and gathering of statistical information in order to measure and demonstrate success and value for money;
- Provide general support to the team in the delivery of the annual Country Business Plan.
Required Experience & Skills
- Good attention to detail, strong analytical perspective and problem solving skills;
- Experience in customer service or an understanding of customers in vulnerable situations;
- Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in Spain and the UK, and maintain excellent working relationships between UK and Spanish government departments;
- Fluency in English and an excellent level of Spanish, as both languages will be necessary on a daily basis - please note that your languages level will be tested at the interview;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- IT skills (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel);
- Occasional travel may be required;
- Ability in the following key Foreign and Commonwealth Office competences: making effective decisions; collaborating and partnering; managing a quality service; delivering at pace and leading and communicating.
Desirable Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of the UK and Spanish social security and health systems;
- Knowledge of a third language, in particular Portuguese or French;
- An understanding of the EU regulations on social security;
- Customer service experience is preferred, particularly assisting distressed customers
- Preferably degree educated but not essential;
- Communications experience with knowledge of Wordpress;
- Previous work experience ideally within government or at least office-based job analytical and written skills.
Terms and Conditions
This is a full-time fixed-term contract. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week.
The monthly salary for this position is 19511.04€ gross, at a locally engaged A1 level.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance with a probation period of 3 month.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy/Consulate based on gross annual salary.
Regarding taxation, the Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of Spanish income tax at the legally required rate.
