The British Spanish Society proudly presents a special one night only screening of 'Spain: A Democracy has been Arranged', the ground-breaking British TV made documentary on post-Franco Spain written and narrated by the legendary TV journalist and historian the late Robert Kee, First shown in 1977 on BRITISH TV , to critical acclaim, it contains an incisive commentary and unique dramatic scenes and interviews from across the country, involving key participants of Spain's transition to democracy from dissident soldiers, priests, footballers and radical lawyers to Adolfo Suarez and a young King Juan Carlos. It provides an extraordinary account of the tensions in Spain in the aftermath of Franco's death and how the country struggled to prepare for life in a democracy. The film will be presented by the chairman of the BritishSpanish Society, author and journalist Jimmy Burns Marañon, who worked as a researcher and producer of the documentary. Jimmy was recently appointed the new chairman of the Anglo-Spanish Society. Following the showing, there will be a panel discussion with the participation of : Author and journalist Ana Romero, author and columnist Tom Burns Marañon, Reuters/Thompson Spain correspondent Sarah White , and the lawyer and publisher Francesc Guardans Cambó.
