Barcelona. The chamber celebrated a Centenary Dinner in Barcelona with a charity auction with the proceeds going to UNICEF, in the building of Barcelona Football Club. The BCCS was established in Barcelona in June 1908 and were founding members of Barcelona FC. The auction gave an opportunity to all participants to contribute to protecting the rights of children. The BCCS, with its head office in Barcelona, has organised events for the whole of Spain for many years, and this was one of the most important in its history. The event attracted around a hundred and fifty attendees, both British and Spanish, of the directors of companies associated with the Chamber including La Caixa, Burberry, ESADE, Abertis, Cuatrecasas, Hackett London and British Airways, as well as important government officials. Karen Stock, President of the Chamber and Director of Burberry in Europe stated – "After 100 years we can say that the BCCS is the leading British-Spanish institution in the promotion of companies." The Vice-President of UNICEF in Catalonia, Pablo Giménez-Salinas, commented – "It is an honour for us to receive the support of the BCCS and its members for our cause. For 60 years, UNICEF has worked to involve all sectors of society in improving the situation of children all over the world." UNICEF works the land in more than 150 countries and territories in order to help children to survive and progress in life from childhood to adolescence. UNICEF is financed entirely by voluntary contributions by individuals, companies, foundations and governments. |
