Governing Council

Governing Council

The Governing Council is a board of eighteen businessmen and women who voluntarily dedicate their time and expertise to lead the strategic management of the Chamber. They are responsible for all strategic decisions and guide the Chamber’s development plan. The Governing Council is elected every two years by members at the annual general meeting.

Purpose

To represent the interests of the members of the Chamber, creating the optimum conditions and necessary support for the growth and development of the Chamber.

To offer counsel and guidance to the President, Vice-President in terms of strategy and in the day to day running of the Chamber.

Key Deliverables

  • Actively promote the BCCS in order to attract new members.
  • Contribute ideas for the development of the BCCS in line with agreed strategy and participate in the implementation.
  • Identify possible speakers for Chamber events and provide introductions.
  • Assume responsibility within sub-committees and sectors.
  • 1.Volunteer expertise and resources to support the Chamber activities and development.

  • To be the main representative of the Chamber and to protect and promote its mission and brand.
  • To lead the Governing Council in the definition of strategic development.
  • To provide leadership, management and support to the “National Director” and Chamber staff.
  • To be the BCCS Ambassador when dealing with senior decision makers, political leaders and press

To advise the President, Board and Director on any legal issues that may arise in the day-to-day work of the Chamber.

Key Deliverables

  • Advise the Director on legal decisions within the Chamber and vis-a-vis third parties.
  • Review and modify or draft contracts and other legal documents
  • Assist the President and Board on the Articles of Association (Estatutos) and their development.
  • Advise on the protection of the Chamber's Intellectual Property and Copyright.
  • Advise on the position to be taken in connection with Claims from third parties, or to be served against third parties.
  • General advice on legal matters (with the exception of Labour and Tax issues)

Work closely with staff and committees to ensure that all communications sent comply with branding guidelines and present the right image for the Chamber.

Key Deliverables

  • Work closely with the National Director and the member of staff responsible for communications to monitor progress and provide guidance on the membership directory and the website.
  • Communicate with regional committees to ensure that consistent branding is used in all areas, and that the mission of the Chamber is widely communicated.
  • To study and provide opportunities to promote the Chamber’s image and its work.

  • To advise the National director on stories and press releases that are media worthy.
  • To liaise with members and key organisations, to encourage them where appropriate to publicise the Chamber in their press releases.

Work closely with staff and regional committees to monitor, maintain and drive membership levels.

Key Deliverables

  • Work closely with the National director and the member of staff responsible for membership in order to monitor Altas, Bajas & Cambios.
  • Actively communicate with the regional committees, encouraging each member to provide names of potential members, and invite these to events in order for them to become members.
  • Work in collaboration with the regional presidents to produce and promote a varied agenda of events, with the aim of adding value for existing members, and stimulating potential members to join.
