The current "la Caixa", la Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona, is the result of the merge in 1990 of "la Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de Cataluña y Baleares", founded in 1904, and "la Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Barcelona", founded in 1844. Today "la Caixa" is the top savings bank in Spain and the third largest financial group in the country. The institution's strategy consists of maintaining profitability levels, boosting growth and technological development and, above all, ensuring the safety of its customers' funds, while providing the highest quality of service.
